Watch how to open a bitter melon — a savory, bitter fruit

This story involves bitter melons and appliance repair. On the day I bought bitter melons for the first time, an appliance repair technician came to my house. Since I was not sure how to prepare a bitter lemon, and just before the technician was to leave, I asked him if he eats bitter melons.

He is such a fan that he showed me how to open one. He washed up, since he had reviewed the appliance, picked up a knife, and proceeded to scrape, de-seed, and chop the bitter melon. Here’s a video of me using his method.
